Press Corps
Where Headlines Begin
Director: Sarah Khowessa
Topic Summary
The Press Corps at Harvard National Model United Nations 2027 immerses delegates in the fast paced world of international journalism. Rather than representing a nation, delegates take on the role of reporters responsible for covering committee proceedings, questioning participants, and producing written pieces that capture both the substance and spirit of debate. This perspective highlights the essential role of the press in documenting global affairs and shaping how events are understood by broader audiences. In today’s media landscape, journalists face growing challenges, including the spread of misinformation, questions of credibility, and the pressure of rapid news cycles. Within Press Corps, delegates will engage with these realities while considering the responsibilities that come with reporting on complex political issues. They will think critically about ethics in storytelling, the influence of narrative framing, and the importance of accuracy and accountability. Through active participation, delegates will strengthen their ability to analyze information, communicate clearly, and adapt their writing to different audiences while contributing to a dynamic portrayal of the conference.
Director’s Letter
Dear Delegates,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Press Corps for the 2027 session of Harvard National Model United Nations. I am truly honored to serve as your Director, and I am excited to work alongside each of you as we explore the dynamic role of journalism, storytelling, and accountability within international diplomacy.
My name is Sarah Khowessa, and I am a rising junior in Kirkland House concentrating in Social Studies, with a secondary in Ethnicity, Migration, and Rights on the pre-law track. I am originally from Philadelphia, and have previously served as an Assistant Director for Press Corps. Returning now as Director, I am especially excited to build a space where creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration can thrive.
Outside of Model UN, I am deeply involved in outreach and mentorship. I work with the Harvard Admissions Office to connect with prospective students, helping them navigate the college application process. I also volunteer with an after-school program for high school students, where I tutor in both academic subjects and college applications. These experiences reflect my broader passion for supporting others and creating opportunities for people to grow and succeed. I am also very interested in law and public policy, having previously interned with the City of Miami Beach and soon with the Pennsylvania court system, where I hope to further explore the intersection of law, governance, and community impact.
Press Corps holds a special place within HNMUN because it challenges delegates to think beyond traditional debate. Whether through articles, interviews, or investigative pieces, you will play a critical role in capturing the complexity and energy of committee proceedings.
I am here to support you every step of the way. Please do not hesitate to reach out with
any questions or concerns. I cannot wait to meet all of you and see the creativity and insight you
bring to Press Corps.
Sincerely,
Sarah Khowessa
