Joint General Assembly

Global Pandemic Response and International Resilience

Directors: Margeret Bowles & Lucia Gallo

Topic Summary

This committee will take the form of a Joint General Assembly. Both committee spaces will operate within the scenario of a major global pandemic that is disrupting international supply chains, security networks, and, of course, healthcare systems. The pandemic has caused such widespread disruption that the Secretariat has decided to convene a Special Summit on Global Resilience to address the effects of the crisis. The first committee will focus on security and crisis response, while the second committee will address issues of trade and economic stability. Both committees will be asked to consider the broader geopolitical dynamics and public health impacts of the pandemic.

Director’s Letter

Dear Delegates,

My name is Margaret Bowles, and I am beyond excited to be serving as Director of the Joint GA this HNMUN! I am originally from a small town outside of Boston. At Harvard, I am studying Government and Economics on the Pre-Law track.

I was introduced to Model UN my junior year of high school where I had the opportunity to attend HMUN as my first-ever conference. I am pleased to report that I had such a good time competing at HMUN my junior and senior year in high school that I decided to enter the land of MUN in college. Currently, I compete on the North American circuit with Harvard’s competitive Model UN team, ICMUN, where I have spent most of my time competing in GAs and non-traditionals and serving as director of training for the General Assemblies. I also have a variety of conference staffing experience. So far, I have directed UNOOSA and the Legal Committee at HNMUN and I am excited to be directing at this conference again for HNMUN 2027. I am also the USG of the General Assemblies for HMUN (our high school conference) and on secretariat for HMUN India in addition to directing at HMUN Dubai. I love the people and experiences that Model UN at Harvard has allowed me to connect with. I am honored to be one of your chairs for the first-ever Joint GA committee this year at HNMUN.

I am excited to meet you all this February. I expect our topics to yield lively debate and creative resolutions. Throughout the committee, I expect that all delegates will keep their conduct positive and help create a constructive environment in addition to treating the topic with the proper sensitivity. I am always happy to help both in committee and ahead of time.

Best regards,

Margaret Bowles

Director’s Letter

Dear Delegates,

My name is Lucia Gallo, and I am so excited to be your Director as part of HNMUN 2027! I’m originally from New York City, and I have been doing Model UN since my freshman year of high school. I’ll be a senior at Harvard by the time HNMUN rolls around, and I’m studying Government!

As part of the International Relations Council at Harvard, I serve as Director-General for our high school conference, HMUN, and I was a past Head Delegate for the competitive team. Within committee, I hope to cultivate a welcoming, collaborative environment that fosters creative ideas and lively debate. Throughout the weekend, I’ll be looking for delegates who balance leadership with collaboration, well-researched solutions with innovation, and consistency with flexibility. I am absolutely ecstatic to be your Director for HNMUN 2027. If you have any questions, please feel more than free to reach out!

Sincerely,

Lucia Gallo
