Commission on Narcotic Drugs
Targeting Illicit Drug Markets on the Dark Web
Directors: Nathan Georg & Arsema Aklog
After tallying up over 2000 votes on social media, the people have spoken…
With 62% of the total votes, Commission on Narcotic Drugs was voted the HNMUN 2026 People’s Choice Committee!
This committee will be resolution-based.
Topic Summary
As illicit drug markets migrate online, the dark web and decentralized finance (DeFi) have become tools for traffickers to operate anonymously and across borders. Cryptocurrencies and encrypted platforms challenge traditional enforcement, while global cooperation remains fragmented.
Delegates must confront a rapidly evolving landscape: How can the international community disrupt online drug trafficking while respecting digital rights and financial innovation? What role should state sovereignty and global governance play in addressing this 21st-century threat?
Director’s Letter
Dear Delegates,
Welcome to the Peoples Choice Committee; Commision on Narcotic Drugs of the 2026 session of Harvard National Model United Nations! It is my honor to serve as your Director. Over the course of our time together, I look forward to facilitating dynamic debate, watching real-time problem-solving, and making this committee a collaborative, informative, and fun experience for each and every one of you.
My name is Nathan Georg. I am a sophomore at Harvard College studying economics and government with a Spanish language citation. I’m originally from Arlington Heights, Illinois, a suburb about 45 minutes northwest of Chicago. I first engaged with Model UN during my junior year of high school, though I initially wasn’t convinced that it was the right extracurricular fit for me. Three years later, I find myself competing on the inter-collegiate circuit, which has been home to a host of amazing educational and social experiences.
At HNMUN last year, I had a blast serving as an Assistant Director on the Boeing Board of Directors. Some committee highlights were an impromptu criminal trial, a combative Congressional hearing, and numerous drama-inducing press releases. I love big committee ideas and hope to deploy plenty in People’s Choice. Given the novel nature of this committee, I encourage you to think outside the box and bring innovative ideas to our sessions.
Outside of MUN, I am the Co-President of International Relations on Campus, write for The Harvard Crimson’s editorial board, serve on the board of the Undergraduate Kaizen Club, and volunteer in an afterschool program in South Boston.
As your director, I am here for you from the early stages of your research to the closing remarks of our committee. Please reach out with any questions, comments, concerns (or big ideas). I look forward to meeting you all soon!
Sincerely,
Nathan Georg
