Topic Summary
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… the year is 19 BBY. The war between the Republic and the Separatists is coming to an end. Some senators are celebrating the imminent victory, yet many are cautious of Chancellor Palpatine’s perceived overreach of power. They call for the end of the Emergency Powers Act and the dawn of a new leader. In light of these events, a group of influential senators has decided to meet to discuss the emerging power vacuum and the current state of the Republic.
Corruption, conflict, and civil disorder remain rampant throughout the galaxy. Factions within the chamber threaten the very unity the Republic fought for. Pressure from each senator’s home world to establish peace continues to mount, threatening their election prospects.
As individuals within the Senate try to usurp powers for themselves, and the calls for a new Empire grow stronger, sparks of rebellion flicker
Will the Republic be saved, or will it crumble under the weight of deception and war? In this chamber, will democracy die or be reborn? The choice is yours.
You are our only hope.
Director’s Letter
Fellow Senators,
The darkness is rising. The shadow of evil is upon us. The elements of rebellion, revolution, and renegades are destroying the republic as we speak. The current leadership has failed us time and time again. From the incident of Naboo to the rising influence and power of the Jedi. Our leaders have far too often bowed ther heads in the face of a threat. The Republic has at numerous instances transgressed the boundaries of truth, the only thing that stands between reality and delusion. The Jedi have for far too long dictated our decisions.
The republic will fall if we do not adapt, if we do not change, and if we do not replace the individuals who have brought us to the helm of annihilation.
The voids of the galaxy will swallow us within if we do not halt the advance of ideas that have destroyed systems. This session and calling is our last defence against the forces of destruction. For all who gain power are afraid to lose it, but they must if it is for the survival of the galaxy and its people.
Our mission, should you choose to accept it, is to build an alliance of like minded individuals, dedicated to the preservation, prosperity, and progress of the galaxy. We must build a strong fleet, a strong executive, and implace upon the throne a rightful leader and emperor who can lead us out of these tumultuous times. The empire’s resources are at our disposal, so why should we be soft? Why should we pay heed to the lives of those who have harmed us? Why should we not build the greatest army and weapon in the galaxy?
I say we put an end to the era of cowardness, of forgiveness, and of soft-power. Instead, we build an empire rooted in security for our people, expansion for the future, and a just emperor.
Let’s join our hands and let democracy stand true!
The Empire or death!
Supreme Chancellor,

Director’s Letter
Fellow Delegates of the Galaxy,
Welcome to our Star Wars Republic Senate committee at the 72nd iteration of HNMUN! My name is Ella, and I am pleased to be serving as your crisis director. Originally from Burnaby, Canada — located directly beside Vancouver — I grew up between snowy mountains and salty Pacific shores. Currently, I am a sophomore studying Government with a secondary focus in Economics. Unlike some of my fellow MUN peers, Harvard was my first exposure to both the circuit and community, and it has become a crucial part of my college experience. When not in the MUN world, I play niche sports, find cheap ways to travel, doomsday scroll through the New York Times — and, as you probably noticed — overuse em dashes.
Given this committee topic, it is unsurprising to hear that I am a huge Star Wars nerd! I initially fell in love with the franchise after being gifted a DVD set of the original trilogy. From that point onward, I consumed almost every spin-off and “Hello there!” TikTok edit I could, immersing myself into the vast fandom. I look forward to spending multiple days with all of you, hearing spirited debate complete with lore, intergalactic drama, and high-stakes diplomacy.
In the meantime, I will be diligently rewatching Episodes I through VI to prepare for your arrival— it might not be a bad idea for you to do the same.
May the force be with you always,
Ella
